Caitlin ran with us this morning.  She is wanting to lose weight and has asked for some support.  We ran out 1.5 and then turned around and came back.  We averaged 13 1/2 min miles.  I almost decided to go run the miles again as we walked so much on the way back.  However, Fontana is this Saturday and I am after a pr, so decided to leave it in the tank so to speak.  Hopefully it works.

Welcome to the blog! Are you the same Sweetiepie as the one on the St. George Marathon forum? Good luck on your goals! This is definitely the place to come for advice on qualifying for Boston.

Yes, Kerry I am the same sweetiepie. My daughter found this website and recommended it, as I am trying to be more serious in my weight loss and running efforts. Have we met before?

Welcome to the blog. The key element to improving your fitness is consistency in training. Make sure to get out 6 days a week, no exceptions, no excuses. Do not walk any more than 30 seconds at at time if you have to walk at all. Walking is not nearly as effective as running for building your fitness. One time I carried a kid on my back all the way up to the entrance of the Timpanogos Cave, that is quite a climb, but at the end my heart rate was only 96. That same day it was 108 after running a mile in 10:20 with my 5 year old daughter. For me 10:20 is a very slow pace, but still running at a very easy effort I was working considerably harder that walking uphill carrying 30 lb on my back.

Welcome Sweetiepie! Have you run any marathons yet? What was your PR? And what is your qualifying time for Boston? Keep up the great training!

And BTW, Sasha's advice is sometimes a little different from what a lot of people say about running (no extra rest days, for example), but everything I've ever tried that he has suggested has worked very well for me. That guy knows how to keep off the injured list!

No, I don't think we've ever met. I usually visit the SGM forum in the weeks leading up to the race and remember seeing your name on a number of posts.

My marathon pr was at St George 2006 with a 5:50:12. However, I know I am capable of so much more, I just need to train more consistently and lose the weight. I presently run 5 days a week averaging between 20-25 miles. Now that I am gearing up for the slam, I am never under 26.2 and heading towards the 30s. I am doing the slam only to acclimate my body to the distance. I am treating all of them except St George as long slows. I just want to finish them. St George is the one I am after. I am hoping to sub 5 at SGM and then get into serious gear for BQing. I need a 4:15 I believe for Boston. A long way to go but possible.
